Digital optimization provides tools for destinations to reach their target markets and goals. It is also a helpful tool to enhance the traveling experience of visitors. BECA aims to integrate the tourism and conservation activities with digital optimization, such as presenting local products and services online, providing training for digital marketing to stakeholders, and developing a website for the Destination Management and Marketing Organization (DMMO) for the preferred business model. Digital marketing will provide sustainability to the BECA project in the future and help the Sundarbans reach its global recognition at a lower cost.
As one of the benefits for joining the DMMO, businesses will gain enhanced access to digital marketing and online optimization of their business which will ultimately improve revenue, increase tourist visitation, and enable businesses to track customer satisfaction over the long term. The DMMO itself will have a comprehensive website and social media channels to promote the Sundarbans and the greater region including the tourism enterprises and the Sundarbans Ecovillages. Alliance partner Miles Partnership focuses on building the digital capability and presence of the region – both the quality and accuracy of the information available online and the digital skills of the industry. Building these core digital assets, knowledge and capabilities is critical to the growth of sustainable tourism in the Sundarbans – reaching and engaging with both domestic and international visitors.
An important part of the digital capability program is building the completeness of organic points of interest and business information across the major digital platforms – including Google (Google Search, Google Maps, Google Business Profiles), TripAdvisor, Apple Maps, Facebook plus the major Online Travel Agency (OTA) sites – principally those owned by Expedia, Booking.com and Airbnb. A part of the digital capability program will be to develop ‘Digital Champions’ through education and training. Stakeholder Center for Communication Action Bangladesh (C-CAB) is assisting in training digital champions to ensure that business health and viability can be tracked in the long-term.
